Jesus Canahuati, President of Elcatex, in Honduras, will share a groundbreaking plan for investments in and the competitive advantages of textiles in Honduras. This plan, one that provides a template not just for other nations but for regions within the Americas and the hemisphere itself. This study lays out the SWOT of the Americas with a depth of strengths and opportunities.

The Honduras 2020 Plan is a promoted by the government with the private sector's support and aims to generate 600,000 jobs and US$13 billion dollars in investments.  Honduras 2020 focuses on six strategic areas of the economy, textiles and apparel, intermediate manufacturing, tourism, agribusiness, ITO and BPO, and housing. One of the goals of the textile sector is to increase annual exports to US$7.4 billion and add 200,000 jobs to the country's existing 150,000 jobs by the year 2020. In additional to textiles, there are public and private funding programs in education; housing, infrastructure; energy; construction; port expansion and roads.

Honduran textile companies are ramping up synthetics output in Honduras. Come hear from the supply chain of Honduran companies that are creating new developments in a "speed-to-market" Central America region:

  • Eric Joo, General Director, United Textiles of America—building a new US$73 million synthetic yarn production plant
