9:00am-12:45pm. The Kwai Tsing container port, operated by 5 terminal operators, provides 24 container berths in 9 terminals, with a total quay length of 7,694 meters and terminal area of 279 hectares, offering a total handling capacity of over 20 million TEUs per year. The port is an important pillar of Hong Kong's economy. Modern Terminals (MTL) has been a pioneer in the growth of the container terminal industry in Hong Kong and Mainland China ever since opening Hong Kong's first purpose built container handling facility in 1972. Today, the container terminal businesses of MTL are located at the Kwai Tsing container port in Hong Kong and two Mainland China locations, DaChan Bay Terminals in the Pearl River Delta and Taicang International Gateway in the Yangtze River Delta. In recent years, the container transportation industry in Hong Kong has been facing a number of challenges. During the visit, Gavin Dow, General Manager - Strategy and Business Development of Modern Terminals and Chair of the AmCham Transportation & Logistics Committee will share updates on the industry and how Modern Terminals has been weathering the storm and remains competitive.
