Taxation of Intellectual Property, Recent Trends and Tax Planning
12:00-1:45pm. The talk will give the delegates a good understanding of key tax issues and tax planning opportunities when dealing with IP related matters.
AmCham HK is pleased to welcome Mr. Pieter de Ridder, Partner of Mayer Brown LLP, who will speak on Taxation of Intellectual Property, Recent Trends and Tax Planning. Topics to be covered:
(1) The basics of taxation of IP: what are typically the taxes people need to address when dealing with Intellectual Property (IP) -IP development -IP exploitation
(2) Favourable tax jurisdictions for IP planning -Is Hong Kong a good location for exploiting IP?
(3) Tax planning opportunities for a tax efficient IP structure including recent trends in IP tax planning.
Pieter will also discuss some initiatives taken by certain countries in Europe to promote themselves as tax efficient locations for IP ownership. This has led to an international initiative by the OECD, endorsed by the G20 countries, to challenge IP ownership structures which lack sufficient people’s functions. This has led to a number of IP-promoting countries adopting the OECD’s proposals and changing their domestic tax laws. IP-owing multinational groups need to be aware of these developments. First 15-20 minutes is for networking Sandwiches & beverages included
