The truth is, no organization is completely immune from cybercrime and in fact, increasingly, it is becoming clear that many organizations cannot keep up with cybercrime and the bad guys are winning. So what can organizations do to arm themselves appropriately in this fight? Verizon security researchers, using advanced analytical techniques, have found that 92 percent of the 100,000 security incidents analyzed over the past ten years can be traced to nine basic attack patterns that vary from industry to industry . More disturbingly, the data indicates that hackers are getting better at their jobs and the security community is not improving quickly enough to keep up in the fight against cybercrime. These findings are the highlights of Verizon's ' 2014 Data Breach Investigations Report " and are intended to enable a more focused and effective approach to fighting cyberthreats.
Based on big data analysis, these findings provide deep insights on how we approach cyberthreats as an industry and using results from intelligence gathering, enable organizations to more strategically determine their best defense.
Now in its seventh year of publication, this latest data breach report analyzes more than 1,300 confirmed data breaches as well as more than 63,000 reported security incidents. For the first time, security incidents that don't result in breaches are included in order to gain a better understanding of the cybersecurity landscape.
