The context for Asian power market is undergoing dramatic change. The rising concerns about climate change and greenhouse gas emissions, and the notorious 'bad air" in capital Beijing and other big cities of China, are almost wiping out coal utilization in environmental 'hot spots".
Led by China, Asian countries are seeking to use greener, cleaner energy (i.e. renewables and gas) to replace coal. But the fact is most of Asia bears the highest gas price in the world and renewable can only play a small part in energy mix currently. Clean coal, under this circumstance, is the best solution, and a Dongguan showcase can prove its economics without subsidy.
