Hosted by the Energy Committee

Guangdong province is Hong Kong's neighbor and the largest economy within China. In this talk, Dr. Xu will first discuss Guangdong's energy consumption pattern and the future evolution. Then the focus will be switched to examining how the demand is met particularly in the power sector.
After introducing its energy mix and associated challenges, major energy types, such as coal, natural gas, hydro, solar, wind and nuclear energy, will be analyzed individually to assess Guangdong's future options. Finally, the linkage between Hong Kong and Guangdong on carbon dioxide mitigation will be investigated to distinguish the potentially serious carbon dioxide leakage problem in Hong Kong's recent climate mitigation plan.
