Reflections on the occupation movement from a Rule of Law perspective
First 15-20 minutes is for networking Light breakfast included
Hosted by the Law Committee Mr. Paul Shieh, SC, Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, will share his thoughts on the meaning of the 'Occupy Central" movement vis-a-vis the Rule of Law in Hong Kong. The movement is in part a reaction to what is perceived as a threat to the robustness of the Rule of Law in Hong Kong, in so far as the principles of 'one country, two systems", independence of the judiciary and effective protection of human rights are concerned.
At the same time, one must query how the movement itself is deployed within the confines of the Rule of Law, and what impact the movement is likely to have on this fundamental principle in Hong Kong.
In his capacity of Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association, Mr. Paul Shieh, SC is uniquely placed to share insightful views on these issues which are of vital importance to Hong Kong's identity and competitiveness.
