Based on research for his new book, Landed China , Christopher will explain who is eligible to buy, including residency requirements and the use of holding companies. He will also outline the legal framework for ownership of rural and urban land and discuss land leases and the development process.
Christopher will describe the practical aspects of buying and decorating a new home, and the opportunities and risks in heritage properties like Shanghai's lilong, Beijing's siheyuan and Guangzhou's xiguan . The presentation covers China's distinctive urban villages and issues such as brownfield sites and defective construction. After reviewing mortgages, taxes and fees, Christopher concludes with a look at China's property bubble and its implications for prospective homeowners.
