Hosted by the Human Capital Committee Findings from a recent Study in Hong Kong entitled the ' Hong Kong LGBT Climate Study 2011-12' show that the majority of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals in Hong Kong continue to face widespread discrimination – both in the community at large and in Hong Kong's workplaces. Of particular concern for employers are the findings that workplaces that are not inclusive of LGBT employees are having a negative impact on business performance – directly affecting LGBT employees' well-being, productivity and level of engagement. On the other hand, workplaces that are inclusive are good for business. To help companies better understand the business case for creating inclusive workplaces for LGBT employees and the social landscape in which LGBT employees are navigating, AmCham Hong Kong and Community Business have organised an interactive breakfast event.
The event will include a short presentation on the findings from the Hong Kong LGBT Climate Study 2011-12 and a panel discussion with representatives from Barclays and Goldman Sachs – both leading companies in this space. Attendees can expect to learn the following: The business case for addressing the needs of LGBT employees The cultural and legal context for LGBT issues in Hong Kong The key workplace challenges faced by LGBT employees in Hong Kong Realistic and practical steps companies can take to create inclusive workplaces for LGBT employees Attendees will also receive a complimentary copy of the following publications: -Creating Inclusive Workplaces for LGBT Employees – A Resource Guide for Employers in Hong Kong -Hong Kong LGBT Climate Study 2011-12 – Attitudes to and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees
