12:00 - 2:00pm (first 15-20 minutes is for networking) Sandwiches & beverages included Hosted by the Information & Communication Technology Committee We will review recent developments in technologies for on-line learning and the surge interest in these technologies, in particular the emergence of MOOCs – Massive Open On-line Courses. The development of MOOCs reflects the increased capability of the internet to enable smooth delivery of digital content as well as interaction and networking as part of the learning process and increased global access to the web.
MOOCs are now being developed by well known universities, including Harvard, Stanford and MIT, and locally by HKUST and CUHK. The key question is whether this new technological capability provides only a valuable addition to the tools available for teaching and learning, or whether these are disruptive technologies with the long-term potential to transform higher education in the way that music, publishing and other businesses have been transformed.
