Join us for this informative luncheon as Matt Friedman, international human trafficking expert, outlines constructive efforts including the cutting-edge initiatives of the Mekong Club to confront and end the global scourge of human trafficking.
Mr. Friedman  will discuss: what is human trafficking, who is trafficked, what are people trafficked for, where can it be found, and what can be done to stop it.  He will also provide a description of how private sector companies are becoming involved in helping to respond to this problem, with specific reference to the new California Transparency in Supply Chains Act.
This legislation now imposes obligations on major companies to disclose their efforts for eradicating slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains. Mr. Friedman will explain the relevance of this issue in Asia and how this will potentially impact your organization.   For the audience, the presentation will provide a small glimpse into a world seldom seen by outsiders -- a world that is all too often much closer to home than we might want to admit.
As combating human trafficking and modern day slavery is a priority for the U.S. Consulate Hong Kong and Macau, we are honored to have Clifford A. Hart, Jr., Consul General of the United States of America to Hong Kong and Macau, present opening remarks .
