8:00am – 12:00pm. Hong Kong's important regional and international role in finance and banking, and its entrepreneurial spirit has set a solid foundation for FinTech development. Many U.S. based FinTech firms are starting to look at Hong Kong as their platform for Asia and many U.S. banks' Asian teams are looking at innovations in Asia that they can bring back to the U.S. market. The Forum will focus on the FinTech linkages between the U.S. and Hong Kong and explore opportunities and challenges to developing a homegrown FinTech industry for Hong Kong.
In addition, as Hong Kong is becoming a FinTech hub in Asia with a large number of FinTech start-ups from P2P and blockchain to big data and data security as well as dozens of international banks who are looking at investing or partnering with such firms, thus creating a viable FinTech eco-system in Hong Kong. The Forum will explore why bringing the FinTech ecosystem to the next level will require some additional work not only in fostering new talent in technology, but also building a culture of risk taking and entrepreneurship as well as innovative and creative thinking. Equally important, Hong Kong's regulatory framework will need to reflect new business practices while continuing to offer strong investor and consumer protection.
