Kenneth J. DeWoskin Senior Advisor and Eminence Fellow at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
Dr. DeWoskin is a former partner for China Strategy and Business Development at one of the Big Four, founder of Deloitte's China Research and Insight Centre, and now serves as a Senior Advisor and Eminence Fellow to Deloitte for China research and insight. He concurrently serves as Senior Advisor to The Conference Board China Center for Economics and Business, and formerly served on the Board of Directors of AP Moeller Maersk’s AsiaPac holding company. A former professor of International Business and chairman and professor of Asian Cultures at the University of Michigan, Dr. DeWoskin has been involved with China for over 50 years and has lived and worked extensively in both China and in Japan.
Dr. DeWoskin's direct experience with mainland China goes back to 1977. He has served numerous clients in financial and strategic investment, logistics, automotive and industrial sectors, energy, telecommunications, consumer products, commodities and mining, retail, entertainment, media and IT, software, pharmaceutical and healthcare, and financial service industries. Dr. DeWoskin has taught numerous executive education programs and participated in forums for Michigan, Singapore Management University, Tsinghua University, and Wharton. He has appeared in media interviews, with the New York Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Bloomberg, SCMP, People's Daily, China Daily, CNBC, Business Week, Fortune, Asian Wall Street Journal, Hong Kong Economic Review, Xinhua News agency, Voice of America, the Washington Post, BBC World Services, and major networks and wire services. He has presented on China business issues across the US and throughout Asia and Europe, in the World Economic Forum, Council on Foreign Relations, Chambers of Commerce, Economist Intelligence Unit, Eurasia Group, the Conference Board, Goldman Sachs, US China Business Council, Asia Financial Forum, China Britain Business Council, World Transportation Forum, BOAO Forum For Asia, Greenbrier Global Leadership Conference, in Chinese print and broadcast media, and for numerous corporate clients and business interest groups. He wrote a regular column for the China Economic Review and wrote regularly for the Far Eastern Economic Review. He currently produces a CFO opinion column for the Wall Street Journal. Dr. DeWoskin provides research and thought leadership and consults with C-Suite executives on critical financial, economic, and business issues. He was a main participant in a major 2050 scenario planning exercise for the Port of Vancouver that included Westac and the Vancouver Airport Authority as well. Topics of current relevance include analysis of China's current state of policy and SOE reform and prospects (including OBOR, China 2025, and Supply Side Reform campaigns), China’s current currency and financial system challenges, China's growth model and consumer trends, strong trends in property and financial services, China’s growing geo-economic ambitions, the on-going integration of the Asia Pacific production networks, energy and environmental initiatives, China's developing geo-economic prominence, China's outbound investment prospects and, importantly, the evolving environment for foreign investors, Dr. DeWoskin received his B.A. from Columbia College in 1965 and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1974. He has also studied at National Taiwan University and Kyoto University, and he is a fluent speaker of Mandarin Chinese and Japanese.
