The issue of trade is increasingly front and center, occupying the headlines and dominating political rhetoric and policy decisions. 2018 will be an important year for trade overall, as the United States continues to reset and refine its trade agenda post-TPP and China pursues multi-lateral deals in the context of its Belt and Road initiative.

Our session will address all manner of recent trade issues, including the following:
  • Key outcomes from APEC activity in 2017 and likely priorities for the year ahead, under the chairmanship of Papua New Guinea
  • The impact and implications of changed U.S. positioning in APEC, the response of the other 20 APEC members, and Hong Kong business priorities
  • The impact of U.S. trade and foreign policy in the region, particularly with respect to the North Korea and China
