Headlines have focused on the trade war, but the more serious US-China confrontation involves technology and finance. To sustain fast growth in the 2020s, China needs economic reforms that depend on technologically-driven productivity gains and a modernized financial system. Its efforts to achieve both could be stymied by US measures to restrict flows of technology and financial capital to China.

In this luncheon talk, Gavekal Dragonomics partner Arthur Kroeber will describe the tools Washington has to hobble China's advance, assess how they could be used, and analyze the potential impacts on China's growth prospects and on Hong Kong's role as a financial entrepôt.

  • Light lunch will be served
  • First 25 minutes for networking
