The shale gas boom in the US over the last few years has definitely turn the US energy picture upside-down, from an era of growing gas demand and declining production which supported development of multiple LNG import projects in a short span, to now facing a picture of North America being self-sufficient in gas, and a forecast that US may become energy self-sufficient in a couple decades.
All these LNG import projects are now predominately idled and are eagerly waiting for approval to become LNG exporter instead.
What is the implication of this shale gas boom to gas markets in Asia? First, can this revolution be replicated in China? Second, how will US LNG export impact the overall development of the global LNG industry? Both can have direct and indirect commercial implication to the natural gas market in Asia in the long term!
