September was a big month for climate news. The Global Climate Action Summit spurred a surge of commitments for a lower-carbon future. Yet within a few short weeks severe weather visited destruction on Japan, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong and the Philippines. The news in October doesn't look much better: the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 C is expected to deliver a sobering assessment. Are the commitments made to date sufficient? How should companies in Asia be thinking about carbon footprints and climate resilience? And what are the implications for COP 24 this December?
Aron Cramer, President and CEO of BSR, brings a multi-faceted, global perspective to these questions. He will debrief Global Climate Action Summit and parse rhetoric from reality on the topics of science-based targets, low-carbon power and other commitments. Rachel Fleishman, Vice Chair of the AmCham Environment & Sustainability Committee will interview Mr. Cramer and facilitate a discussion on the challenges ahead for businesses in Asia.
